Secure Data Deletion

A major concern can be being sure your data will be securely erased.  We have a range of options available to our clients to ensure all hard disks are appropriately and thoroughly wiped of all data.

Certified data destruction is a vital requirement for many organisations wishing to dispose of unwanted computers. Simply smashing the hard drive with a sledgehammer is no guarantee that your data cannot be retrieved.

With DOT-COMmunications you receive a higher level of data destruction.

Upon arrival at our premises, the hard drives are removed from the computer, and are taken directly into a secure area where the drives are documented, tracked and processed.

We have various levels of data destruction for hard drives:

Standard Software Wipe

This consists of using our specialist software and technology to:

  • Carry out deletion using three-pass scrambling - whereby random information is overwritten to every sector of the hard drive and subsequently deleted three times.

  • This process is compliant to above DoD 5220.22-M specifications.

  • Our system has been officially approved for Government data cleansing in the UK.

  • This will prevent commercially available data recovery software from recovering useable data from the disks.

  • Carried out on all donated hard drives as a free service - we do not normally provide documentation.

Comprehensive Wipe

  • Seven pass scrambling is used - this prevents any known data recovery software from recovering useable data.

  • Compliant with both above the DoD 5220.22-M specifications AND SEAP & CESG recommendations (UK Standards) - this exceeds U.S. Government Standards.

  • The process is monitored on our dedicated webcam, which can be made viewable to clients on request.

  • A Certificate confirming Data Destruction is issued which provides unique drive identification and confirmation of non-recoverable, erased data.

  • This is a lengthy process and therefore involves a charge of £10.00 for hard disks under 80 Gb in size.

  • 80 Gb hard drives and above are charged at just £20.00.

Secure Wipe

  • If absolute security is required, we can offer a fully monitored Guttman Algorithm wipe whuich consists of a full 35 pass scrambling - this method exceeds the physically non-destructive aspect of the DoD 5220.22-S specifications (for Classified Data) and is fully compliant with GESG Level 5 Security, the highest level of data destruction.

  • Unfortunately the process takes in excess of 1 hour per gigabyte to process - and is therefore charged @ £20.00 for hard drives under 80 Gb

  • 80 Gb hard drives and above are charged at just £40.00

In addition, our Integrated approach allows all items to be tracked from collection to destruction using our comprehensive asset management system. It is then securely purged using specialist equipment and software under the watchful gaze of our webcam and finally tested by specialist programs to ensure all data has been securely removed, before the drive is finally disposed of, giving you complete peace of mind.
