Members of the public are always welcome to drop off a few computer systems at our facility free of charge and you can be assured that all hard disks and personal settings will be securely deleted prior to disposal. Unfortunately we cannot collect from individual's houses.
An exclusive Local Authority or Trust contract with DOT-COMmunications means provided all your computer equipment can be either delivered directly to our facility or collected from one central source within that Borough, it will be recycled free of charge.
The Local Authority or Trust benefits from having a local charitable community enterprise take responsibility for the legal and ethical disposal of the Local Authority's computer equipment and from the immense and incalculable Social Value this brings to the Local Authority.
All equipment is booked in and you will receive an audit trail (if required) listing serial numbers and asset numbers. You will also receive consignment notes for each consignment we take, which includes numbers, weights and European Waste Codes for all the equipment.
There is no charge for a collection of ten or more items of above minimum specification and functional IT equipment from within Calderdale.
If you are providing us with reasonably modern computer equipment in useable condition and can state that there are no scrap items, then it is not classed as electronic waste, and therefore there is also no requirement for you to register your premises or need waste consignment notes.
If the equipment is old, below minimum specification or contains waste items, then there will be a collection charge (usually a small capped fee to cover transport and/or disposal costs), and you may need to register your premises as a hazardous waste producer before we can collect your equipment.
You can register by post for £28, by telephone for £23 or do it online with a credit/debit card for just £18 from the Environment Agency; we will then supply the necessary Hazardous Waste Consignment Note.
All premises that produce hazardous waste are now exempt from registration if they produce less than 500kg of hazardous waste material per year (equivalent to about 16 below specification or non-functional computers and monitors per year) however you will still require a Consignment Note.
The following rates may apply (though charges are generally capped to keep costs down) and remember if the equipment is functional and above our minimum specification, collection and disposal could be free
